• Avoid using the bottle for hot liquids, as the surface may become very hot. Lukewarm water is ideal.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Copper naturally develops a patina through oxidation. This process is completely normal and does not damage the bottle, but regular cleaning keeps the bottle in optimal condition.

Use cold or lukewarm water to fill the bottle. Avoid hot water, as the surface can become very hot. 
The bottle can go in the fridge, but not in the freezer. Do not leave water in the copper for more than 6 hours.

Clean the inside 2–3 times a week with a mixture of lemon and salt, or vinegar and salt, to remove the patina, then rinse well. The outside has a protective coating: a soft, damp cloth is all it needs. Allow the bottle to dry thoroughly afterward, preferably for several hours before refilling it. Turn the bottle upside down if the inside is not yet completely dry.

In India, copper bottles and cups are traditionally cleaned with tamarind pulp. Another option is to use Pitambari powder for cleaning, which is often available in Indian stores.
