How to clean and care for your copper water bottle

Copper naturally develops a patina through oxidation. This process is completely normal and does not damage the bottle, but regular cleaning keeps the bottle in optimal condition.

Use cold or lukewarm water to fill the bottle. Avoid hot water, as the surface can become very hot. 
The bottle can go in the fridge, but not in the freezer. Do not leave water in the copper for more than 6 hours.

Clean the inside 2 to 3 times a week. Pitambari works best: a polishing powder for copper and brass from India that is easy to use. Follow the instructions on the packaging, then rinse the bottle well with water. Pitambari is available in Indian shops and online.

Wipe the outside with a soft, damp cloth. The thin protective coating makes sure the bottle reaches you new and free of scratches. With daily use and washing it gradually wears away, and the outside also takes on the warm, natural colour of copper.

After cleaning, let the bottle dry thoroughly, preferably upside down for a few hours. Only put the cap back on when the bottle is completely dry. If the cap becomes stiff to turn over time, put a drop of olive oil on the thread.
