Two copper wires, one ring
A tensor ring is handmade from two copper wires that are heated, twisted together and bent into a closed ring. The idea goes back to the American researcher Slim Spurling, who experimented with this shape. We have the rings made in India from the same copper as our drinking bottles and pyramids: 99.1% copper, unlacquered.
How people use it
Place the ring on your desk or bedside table, or put your glass or copper cup of water in the middle of the large ring. You can also lay your gemstones in the ring. Try for yourself what it does for you.
Sizes and copper
- Small ring: two 5 mm copper wires, twisted together. Inner diameter approx. 5.5 cm, outer diameter approx. 7.8 cm. Wire length approx. 20 cm. Weight 79 grams.
- Large ring: two 6 mm copper wires, twisted together. Inner diameter approx. 11 cm, outer diameter approx. 13.5 cm. Wire length approx. 40 cm. Weight 201 grams.
- Material: 99.1% copper, unlacquered, handmade in India.
And the cubit?
The cubit is an ancient unit of length: the distance from your elbow to your fingertips. The best known is the Egyptian royal cubit of 52.4 cm. In the tensor tradition of Slim Spurling, the length of the copper wire is often chosen as a fraction of a cubit, which is why enthusiasts ask about it. Converted, the wire of our large ring is about ¾ cubit and that of the small ring about ⅜ cubit.
Which size?
The small ring is handy for your desk or bag. The large ring has enough room for a glass or cup in the middle. The ring is rigid and closed, and not intended as a bracelet.
Cleaning copper
Copper has a natural tendency to discolour over time (oxidation). Copper reacts to air, humidity and contact with the skin. Oxidation causes the copper to change colour from its original bright orange-brown hue to a darker, less shiny shade. This is a sign of authenticity and does not affect the product’s functionality. You can polish the copper with a soft cloth or clean it with lemon juice, which will restore its beautiful red sheen.
