Unlacquered Copper Lemniscate – symbol of harmony and balance

You will know the lemniscate as the sideways eight, the symbol of infinity. The name comes from the Latin word for a ribbon, and you can draw the shape in one movement, without ever stopping. The English mathematician John Wallis first used the sign in 1655.

What does the lemniscate mean?

In the energy tradition, the sideways eight stands for flow without beginning or end, and for the balance between two sides: breathing in and breathing out, giving and receiving. That is why many people give it a place at home, as a daily reminder of harmony and connection.

Where do you put it?

Many people give their lemniscate a permanent spot: on a shelf in the living room, on the desk, in the bedroom or on the windowsill next to a plant. People also give it a place in the garden, among the plants. It is used during meditation and relaxation exercises, and some people carry a small lemniscate with them as a personal energy tool. In energy work it is also used to support the flow in a room. Try for yourself what it does for you.

Craftsmanship

The lemniscate is handmade in India, from copper with a purity of about 99.1%. Copper cannot be welded or soldered. That is why the joints are finely welded using steel-based electrodes, an alloy of iron and tin. In the energy tradition, copper stands for conductivity and tin for gentleness and stability. We deliberately keep this as natural as possible, so the joints may be visible.

Lacquered or unlacquered?

In energy work, some people prefer unlacquered copper, because there is then no layer in between.

This lemniscate changes colour over time, from bright orange to darker brown, and outdoors to green. That is a natural property of copper. If you want the shine back, copper polish works best; lemon juice with a little salt also works. Rinse with water and dry well.

Hanging system

The large copper lemniscate of 42 and 60 cm comes with a copper hanging system, so you can give it a nice spot on the wall.
